Platte Valley Equipment Tech Days 2025
In November, Platte Valley Equipment hosted Tech Days 2025 with students from more than 11 schools—spanning over 90 miles. Students traveled to our Humphrey and Wahoo locations to take part in the annual hands-on exploration of modern ag technology. Students learned foundational theory, rolled up their sleeves, and immediately put their new knowledge to work.
Let the Fluid Do the Work
Instructors guided students through the basics of hydraulic power theory, breaking down how hydraulic systems create force and motion. Participants connected test equipment, simulators and gauges on John Deere 8R and 5R tractors, watching real-time pressure and flow changes. They compared fixed vs. variable hydraulic systems and experimented with how different loads affected system performance. It was hydraulics in action—loud, powerful, and incredibly fun.
Light Up the Night
From hydraulics to electrons, students next dove into DC voltage basics. They built working circuits, diagnosed why certain bulbs weren’t shining their brightest, and discovered how to troubleshoot electrical issues—just like technicians in the field. Then things got creative as students designed and tested their own circuits, turning their newfound understanding into working miniature light systems.
Who Doesn’t Love Horsepower?
When it comes to equipment, horsepower is the headline act. Students got a behind-the-scenes look at the tools technicians use every day to diagnose and repair machinery. They also witnessed tractors running on the Dyno, learning how technicians confirm engine health and verify whether a machine is hitting its horsepower spec. Nothing beats hearing that engine roar under load.
Can a Tractor Drive Itself?!
Yes, really. Our Precision Ag specialists hosted the Ride-and-Drive experience, giving students the chance to operate a tractors equipped with AutoPath. Once engaged, the tractor took over steering—following the course flawlessly—as the student sat back and watched precision ag in action. They also learned about the data, software, and guidance tools working behind the scenes to make autonomous operation possible. For many, this was the moment when agriculture’s future clicked into focus.
Looking Ahead
To wrap up, students received an overview of how to become a Platte Valley Equipment’s technician, including sponsorships and scholarship opportunities.
An instructor from Lake Area Tech’s TechKnowledge JD Tech program walked them through what a day in the program looks like. A panel of current interns answered questions and shared honest stories about college life, shop life, and everything in between.
Events like PVE Tech Days aren’t just about wrenches and horsepower—they’re about helping the next generation discover where their curiosity can take them. Whether students left dreaming of diagnosing engines, adding lights to their truck or pursuing a technical degree, each walked away with new skills, new confidence, and a spark for possibility. And if the energy from this year’s group is any indication, the future of ag technology is in very capable hands.
