It’s Career Event Season — Let’s Talk About What Comes Next

Fall is here, which means we are officially in full classroom visit and career event mode.

Over the next several months, you’ll find our team at high schools, career fairs, FFA events and in classrooms talking with students about what comes after high school.

And no, our goal isn’t to walk into a classroom and give students an hour-long sales pitch. Nobody wants that… including us.

We want students to know what opportunities are actually out there and give them a chance to explore them before they have to make some pretty big decisions about their future.

Start With a Job Shadow or Shop Tour

Not every student knows exactly what they want to do after high school — and honestly, they shouldn’t have to.

That’s why something as simple as a job shadow can be a great place to start.

Come spend some time in one of our shops. Meet our technicians. See what they work on. Ask questions. Get your hands a little dirty and figure out if this is something you could actually see yourself doing every day.

Students can also explore internships and other opportunities while still in high school. It’s a chance to get real experience, earn some money and find out if a career in the diesel and agriculture industry might be the right fit.

College Without a Mountain of Debt? Yep.

For students who decide this is the path they want to take, there are some pretty great options available.

Our TechKnowledge (TK) program at Lake Area Technical College gives students the opportunity to have their tuition covered while earning their Diesel Technology degree and gaining hands-on experience in our dealerships.

Basically, you can go to school, gain real-world experience and potentially start your career without the student loan bill that normally comes along for the ride.

We also work with students attending other diesel and John Deere programs, with opportunities for tuition reimbursement after graduation.

There isn’t just one path to becoming a technician with us, and that’s kind of the point. We want to help students find the path that works best for them.

We can set up a classroom presentation, Platte Valley Equipment location tour, video call, job shadow opportunity or even a college tour of the TechKnowledge Diesel Program at LATC.

We can talk about careers all day, but sometimes the best way for a student to figure out if something is right for them is simply to experience it.

Come walk through a shop. Shadow a technician. Visit the college. Ask the awkward questions. Turn some wrenches. See what the job actually looks like.

You don’t need to have your entire future figured out yet.

You just need somewhere to start.
